Miles - "As Fast As You Can"

By Natalie Howard, Hip Folk Music Team

Miles' debut release, “As Fast As You Can,” is a testament to this New York based band's patience, professionalism, and their understanding of modern rock.

Miles takes cues from every subdivision of modern rock, from indie to folk to pop punk, and uses them to their advantage. Miles uses saxophone to add depth and surprise to its music - these guys allow themselves to play around with their tracks while maintaining a fun, upbeat sound.

The best part of Miles’ sound has to be that the band has perfected it. The guys may be dabbling in several genres at the same time, but they do it effortlessly and skillfully. The brilliant guitar solo in “Where You Were” and the perfect harmonies in “Face To Face” both demonstrate Miles’ technical talent as well as the group’s innate knowledge of rock music. Miles excels at it so well because they’ve taken the time to find a genre that works for them—even if it is a genre created out of a myriad different genres.

Justin Walker - Charm City Warrior

By Mark Smukler, Hip Folk Music Team

A hellraiser from an early age, Justin Walker calls Charm City his home. That's Baltimore, Maryland for those of you who aren't in the know. Headstrong and independent, Justin does not take fondly to authority figures and voices of reason. He has always believed that everyone is allowed to do whatever he chooses, a notion that is definitely reflected in his music. His ability to mesh different genres is representative of his rebellion against normalcy, and the freedom to march to the beat of his own drum.

His upcoming mixtape,  'WEEKEND WARRIOR' follows Justin through a "normal" weekend in which he displays the many ups and downs that a young party would go through in order to make it to sunday. With heavy hitters like 'MAKEYOUFEELGOOD' and 'MYGIRL' (ft. Jake Weary) expect to see this kid around for a while.
